對我而言，兒時在晚禱中單單只為人們祈福是很無法理解的事。所以每次我跟母親一起晚禱時，我都會悄悄加入我為萬物而作的祈禱詞。它的內容是這樣的 : “ 親愛的天父，請你保佑一切有氣息的萬物；守護它們免於不幸；並讓它們在平靜中安然沉睡。”
It was quite incomprehensible to me--this was before I began going to school--why in my evening prayers I should pray for human beings only. So when my mother had prayed with me, I used to add silently a prayer that I had composed myself for all living creatures. It ran thus: " O, heavenly Father, protect and bless all things that have breath; guard them from all evil, and let them sleep in peace."
